Bastrop, Lee, and Bell County CCCs Ready to Promote the Census

On November 18, these three counties received CCC training from the Central Texas Partnership Team. Each have been provided details on their area hard-to-count populations, resources to use in census awareness outreach, and have been briefed on how to apply for Partnership Support funding. The Census Bureau hopes these tools will be effective in accomplishing a complete and accurate count of their respective communities.

Day Out With Thomas the Tank Engine

The City of Burnet/Burnet County Complete Count Committee was present for Day Out with Thomas the Tank Engine, a massive event held in Burnet, Texas from October 9 -11, 2009. Thomas the Tank Engine is a popular cartoon geared towards toddlers. The Austin Steam Train Association brought Thomas the Tank alive in the form of an actual steam engine! Fans and their families were able to catch a ride on Thomas the Tank. In between periods of the train rides, the CCC provided information on the 2010 Census to passers-by. Kids in attendance picked up balloons and activity books from the 2010 Census booth to remind kids how important it is to remind their parents to fill out their census form. The Census Bureau raffled three baskets of census goodies; the winners are from Cedar Park, Liberty Hill, and Burnet respectively.

Complete Count Committee- Key to 2010 Census Success

Every 10 years, as mandated by the U.S. Constitution, our nation conducts a census — an effort to count every person living in the United States.
The key to this endeavor is having every household fill out and mail back a completed census questionnaire. Participation is critical, as the results determine how Congress is apportioned and how more than $400 billion in federal funds are distributed annually.
One way to help ensure that everyone is counted is to form Complete Count Committees in your community. Complete Count Committees are volunteer teams consisting of community leaders, faith-based groups, schools, businesses, media outlets and others who are appointed by elected officials and work together to make sure entire communities are counted.

San Marcos Complete Count Committee

The San Marcos gathered on October 8 and received training on CCC structure and plan of action. Under the appointed Chair, Daniel Guerrero, the CCC is well organized and ready to ensure the San Marcos community is completely and accurately counted. Thank you to Mayor Narvaiz, the San Marcos CCC has a large budget to accomodate for promotional materials and local media outreach. Congratulations City of San Marcos!

City of Jonestown Oktoberfest

The City of Jonestown hosted Oktoberfest in Jones Brothers Park on October 3, 2009. Even though the rain poured hard, everyone in attendance had a great time! The Central Texas 2010 Census Partnership Team gave balloons away to kids and talked to their parents about the importance of the census. The Team also displayed the actual questionnaire you'll receive in March 2010 for passers-by to view and comment on. We also held a raffle of a big basket of 2010 Census goodies. Our winner is Dawn of Austin.
The City of Jonestown is looking forward to a complete and accurate count of their community. Any interest in volunteering to help the 2010 Census team can be directed to the City of Jonestown office.

City of Taylor Complete Count Committee Ready for the Census

The City of Taylor Complete Count Committee assembled for a workshop last night at City Hall. Taylor is working towards a more accurate count of its residents to qualify for the City's share of federal funding for the next 10 years. City of Georgetown Complete Count Committee Completes 2010 Census Workshop

Volunteers from various sectors of the Georgetown community gathered together for a workshop provided by the Central Texas 2010 Census Partnership Team. The committee learned about resources and tools provided by the Census Bureau, as well as key areas in Georgetown to conduct community outreach activities. The CCC chairperson is City of Georgetown Assistant City Manager Jim Briggs. Interest in volunteering services or partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau in Georgetown can be relayed here or to Jim.

Grants Awarded to Burnet County and Huston-Tillotson University

The U.S. Census Bureau recently awarded grants to the Joint City of Burnet/Burnet County Complete Count Committee and Huston-Tillotson University for the creation of promotional materials towards area census awareness events. The sole purpose of the grant is to promote the 2010 Census in Hard-to-Enumerate communities via local partners that recognize and understand the population served. Both Joint Burnet/Burnet County and HT will sponsor a 2010 Census event; check our Events Calendar for the upcoming dates.

Caldwell County Complete Count Committee

Caldwell County CCC gathered on August 3rd to conduct a second round of training for their members. The result was strong support for the outreach efforts to educate the community on the importance of participating in the decennial census, and returning the questionnaire by April 1, 2010. Due to the large Spanish-speaking population residing in Caldwell, promotional materials including banners, will be made available to the entire County to ensure a complete and accurate count.

Congratulations Hays County

Congratulations to Hays County Complete Count Committee for a tremendous response and attendance to the CCC Training on July 13, 2009 in Kyle Texas. Active members of the CCC include school districts, chambers, local governments, community organizations and local media. A special thanks to Judge Sumter for her support and for the selection of a great team leader and Chairperson Laureen Chernow, whose guidance is bringing the community together in reaching the ultimate goal of a complete and accurate count.
