Complete Count Committee- Key to 2010 Census Success

Every 10 years, as mandated by the U.S. Constitution, our nation conducts a census — an effort to count every person living in the United States.
The key to this endeavor is having every household fill out and mail back a completed census questionnaire. Participation is critical, as the results determine how Congress is apportioned and how more than $400 billion in federal funds are distributed annually.
One way to help ensure that everyone is counted is to form Complete Count Committees in your community. Complete Count Committees are volunteer teams consisting of community leaders, faith-based groups, schools, businesses, media outlets and others who are appointed by elected officials and work together to make sure entire communities are counted.

Welcome Hays County Food Bank

Community organizations such as the Hays County Food Bank are coming on-board and supporting the census core messages: It is easy, It is important, It is safe. The food bank will be distributing flyers with census information starting early next year. Thank you for the support!

2010 Census Welcomes League of Women Voters Austin Area in Partnership

The League of Women Voters Austin Area agreed to partner with the U.S. Census Bureau yesterday. The League of Women Voters (http://www.lwvaustin.org/index.php) is a nonpartisan political organization which encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy. We welcome them in partnership to ensure a complete and accurate count of all Austin residents.

Williamson County Democratic Party agrees to partner with the 2010 Census

The Williamson County Democratic Party submitted a signed partnership agreement form to the Central Texas 2010 Census Partnership Team today. Amongst many other identified partnership opportunities, the Party intends to reach out to the hard-to-count population and inform them of the ease, safety, and importance in participating in the 2010 Census.

2010 Census Welcomes Catholic Charities in Partnership

Catholic Charities of Central Texas formally partnered with the U.S. Census Bureau on the 2010 Census yesterday. Catholic Charities of Central Texas (http://www.ccctx.org/) works to strengthen individuals, families and communities through direct services, community collaboration and social justice advocacy. Catholic Charities understands the importance of a complete count of the Greater Austin area next year, and will assist in communicating the importance of participating in the census to Central Texas residents.

Grants Awarded to Burnet County and Huston-Tillotson University

The U.S. Census Bureau recently awarded grants to the Joint City of Burnet/Burnet County Complete Count Committee and Huston-Tillotson University for the creation of promotional materials towards area census awareness events. The sole purpose of the grant is to promote the 2010 Census in Hard-to-Enumerate communities via local partners that recognize and understand the population served. Both Joint Burnet/Burnet County and HT will sponsor a 2010 Census event; check our Events Calendar for the upcoming dates.

Caldwell County Complete Count Committee

Caldwell County CCC gathered on August 3rd to conduct a second round of training for their members. The result was strong support for the outreach efforts to educate the community on the importance of participating in the decennial census, and returning the questionnaire by April 1, 2010. Due to the large Spanish-speaking population residing in Caldwell, promotional materials including banners, will be made available to the entire County to ensure a complete and accurate count.

Partnership Support Grants

The U.S. Census Bureau recently awarded a grant to the City of Lockhart for the creation of promotional materials. The sole purpose of the grant is to promote the 2010 Census in Hard-to-Enumerate communities via local partners that recognize and understand the population served. Other partners awaiting the Bureau's grant approval include: Hays County Complete Count Committee, City of San Marcos, and Caldwell County Complete Count Committee.

Luling ISD

Congratulations Superintendent Davis and the Board for passing a resolution in support of the 2010 Census. On July 28, 2009, the District accepted to use the U.S. Census' lesson plans in the upcoming school year. Rotary Club at Dripping Springs

Thanks to Commissioner Ford's commitment to the 2010 Census, the Dripping Springs Rotary Club received a presentation on the decennial Census and how this Census impacts local communities. The Rotary Club members responded with great enthusiasm. Some members have already signed partnership agreements with the U.S. Census, and many more wish to join the Hays County CCC.

Congratulations Hays County

Congratulations to Hays County Complete Count Committee for a tremendous response and attendance to the CCC Training on July 13, 2009 in Kyle Texas. Active members of the CCC include school districts, chambers, local governments, community organizations and local media. A special thanks to Judge Sumter for her support and for the selection of a great team leader and Chairperson Laureen Chernow, whose guidance is bringing the community together in reaching the ultimate goal of a complete and accurate count.
